Albus was born a genius to wizarding parents in Great Britain in August, 1881. Albus was clearly gifted from an early age and when he attended Hogwarts never ceased to amaze his peers and professors alike with his incredible magical talent and precocious intellect.
His family life, however, is a much darker story: Albus's father was sent to die in Azkaban prison after killing the muggle boys who tortured Albus's younger sister Arianna into madness.
Albus's only other sibling was a younger, rebellious (but not quite as intellectually gifted) brother named Aberforth. Albus's fame as a genius quickly eclipsed his father's notorious reputation and after his mother and father's deaths, he began a relationship with Gellert Grindewald in his teens in the village of Godric's Hollow. The two boys were equally matched in many respects, both bright, unmatched by their peers, and dissatisfied with an ordinary life. Albus fell in love with Gellert, and allowed Gellert to lead him to plot a quest to find the three Deathly Hollows, a wand, a ring and a cloak that would make them
"masters of death". Gellert begins to plot the domination of the muggle world with the power they've vowed to find in the Hallows, and Albus is far too infactuated to deny him (although he does attempt to reason with Gellert, to persuade him from violence and genocide). Ultimately, however, Albus is far too in love with Gellert to see what Gellert is prepared to become for power.
The affair ends when during an argument between Albus, Aberforth and Gellert, Ariana is killed in the crossfire. Gellert left Godric's Hollow directly after Ariana's death, bent on a plot to discover the Hallows himself. To his dying day, Albus was never certain whose spell ended the girl's life, and was riddled with guilt, assuming the responsibility for the conditions that allowed such a careless death to occur. After some time, Albus became a professor of transfiguration. In 1945, he reluctantly faced Gellert Grindelwald (who had fulfilled his ambition and had taken over a good part of Europe, exterminating muggles
and those with muggle heritage), and defeated him in a duel, resulting in Grindelwald's life long imprisonment. After Albus's "triumph", he then became Headmaster of Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.
During Albus's years as Headmaster, he led the resistance against Voldemort's bid for wizarding supremacy with a secret orginization called The Order of the Phoenix. He faced Voldemort himself on more than one occasion, and remained until his death "the only one [Voldemort] ever feared". Albus was also instrumental in ensuring Harry Potter's well being and safety after the deaths of his parents, and did all he could to prepare the boy for what had to happen if he were to defeat Voldemort himself. Dumbledore insisted on employing Severus Snape, a former Death Eater, despite many protests to the contrary by members of the order, saying only that he trusted Severus absolutely.
After falling terminally ill due to a cursed (but striking!) piece of jewelry, Albus Dumbledore was killed by Severus Snape (as he requested him to do) in June of 1997 in a bid to ensure the future safety of Hogwart's and to save the life of Draco Malfoy, who had been charged with the task of murdering the Headmaster by Voldemort.
Physical Description: Albus is a tall, slender gentleman of about 126 years old - although he does not look it. He always seems possessed of inexhaustible energy, and his most distinguishing features are his bright (often twinkling) blue eyes (behind glasses that he wears perched on his long slightly crooked nose) and his very, very long, well-brushed snow-white hair and beard. Albus is about six feet tall and no more than one hundred and seventy pounds, often dressed in flamboyantly colourful wizarding robes that sweep the ground as he walks. Albus has a kind face (except when angered - he is then described as being terrifying), and very long, nimble fingers that are adorned in colorful rings. He is also fond of heeled boots and hats (but who isn't? ;) ).

Albus enters the village after his death, sometime post second wizarding war (ie, he's already had his conversation with Harry at King's Cross).
